Build Unbreakable Self Discipline With These 5 Rules

Build Unbreakable Self Discipline With These 5 Rules

Understanding that motivation will always not be around us is a good reason why we all need self discipline. We see it every time when people say they have a new year resolution to do something and then after some days, they fall off the path of their own promises that they set for themselves.

It’s all about having that willpower which is backed up by self-discipline to show up everyday and do as planned or targeted. You can have goals, but what makes you consistent in realizing your goals? It’s self-discipline. So how do you build Self Discipline?

1.Remove Temptation:
If you want to be a successful person, you have to be able to delay gratification and short-term pleasure/temptations. Avoid procrastination and distractions.

You can do this by uninstalling those games on your phone or disabling/uninstalling those distracting social media notifications. You can also change your environment if it helps.

2.Don’t Wait For the Right Mood:
You cannot always be in the right mood for work. Our brain wasn’t naturally built for productivity but for instant gratification. A solution would be to deal with things with a sense of urgency. Adjust the deadline in your head. So if something is due in 10 days, give yourself 5 days to complete it.

3.Set Achievable Goals:
When setting goals, you have to be realistically ambitious. If you set the standard so high, you’ll overwhelm yourself and you won’t be able to achieve your goals. Set achievable goals and scale up from there. The more you improve on what you’re doing, the more you increase the intensity. You have to run 100 meters before running 1,000.

This is not to say that you set small goals. Studies show that specific and highly challenging goals lead to higher performance than easy goals. Set achievable goals that aren’t too small. Also, set a deadline. This will make you a lot more efficient and productive.

4.Think Long-Term:
You have to think futuristically and not just in the present. What do you hope to achieve two years from now? What are you doing to achieve it? What would it take? Your actions today impact your person tomorrow. So don’t think just of the now, but the future.

5.Progressively Build A Productive Routine:
The idea here is to take small consistent actions towards your goals. It could be going to the library once every week, reading for 2-hours everyday, waking up at the same time every day.

Build a routine. Identify areas you’d like to see changes and then start working towards how you’re going to change your routine. Eliminate all negative and neutral actions..

5.The 21|90 Rule:
This rule states that it takes 21-days to form a habit, 66-days to ingrain a habit, and 90-days to form a lifestyle. You can adopt this rule to build your self-discipline towards a goal.
