Ever been unsure and confused about your intellectual capacity, especially because of your deficiency in one subject matter? We’re sharing 10 signs that indicate you’re a lot smarter than you think. If you can relate to even some of these signs, then you’re actually smart.
1.You Realize How Much You Don’t Know:
A popular quote says “He who knows not, and knows not that he knows not, is a fool; shun him. He who knows not, and knows that he knows not, is a student; Teach him.” If you don’t know something, and honestly admit to yourself and people around you that you do not know it, rather than lie about it, it tells a lot about your intellect. The Dunning-Kruger Effect is proof.
2.Could Care Less About Fashion:
Psychologist Oliver Burkeman in his study on the lifestyle of the brightest minds discovered that intelligent people rarely pay attention to fashion, unless that is their area of specialty.
Intelligent people would rather spend their time and attention on things that interest them and that they find much more important. This is definitely not to say that if you’re fashionable, you’re not smart. Far from that. You should most definitely put some effort into your appearance.
3.Empathy:
Empathy is said to be a strong indicator of one's intellectual capacity.
If you randomly find yourself feeling what others are feeling, or even thinking, find yourself always excited to meet and relate with people, chances are that you’re definitely a lot smarter than you give yourself credit for.
4.Self-Control:
Research has shown that people who are can control their actions are more intelligent than those who find it hard to plan anything.
So if you find yourself being able to control your impulses, taking your time to think about your actions/inactions, and the outcome, then you are intelligent.
5.Blue Eyes:
American scientists believe that blue eyes are a sign of natural intelligence. In a University of Louisville research, people with blue eyes are better academic achievers than people with brown eyes.
According to Professor Joanna Rowe brown-eyed people have faster reaction times while those with blue eyes appear to be better strategic thinkers.
The research further claimed that those with brown eyes succeeded in sports such as football, while lighter-eyed people were better at studying for exams and activities that required time structuring. Professor Joanna Rowe however notes that there was no scientific explanation for the findings, hence, an observation and not an explanation.
6.You Love Chocolate:
According to the Maine-Syracuse Longitudinal Study of 2016, published in the journal Appetite, chocolate intake was positively associated with cognitive performance.
The study showed that those who consumed more chocolate were “Significantly associated with better performance on [cognitive tests including] visual-spatial memory and organisation, working memory, scanning and tracking, abstract reasoning, and the mini-mental state examination”.
7.You Can Recognise Your Emotions:
Occasionally, we all have mood swings. Normal/natural activities put us off. The difference between a genius and an average person is that a genius is able to recognise their emotions and act on them, resolving them.
According to Psychologist Daniel Goleman, rather than ignore them, geniuses do not only address problems, but also recognise emotions when they feel them.
8.You Soliloquize:
According to psychologists Gary Lupyan and Daniel Swigley, those who talk aloud are geniuses. They came to this conclusion after a study carried out on a small group of people in a supermarket.
Some of the reasons for this is said to be that talking to yourself helps you stay focused, understand yourself better, clarify your thoughts, and stimulate your memory.
9.Background Noise Is a No No:
A North Western University study shows that geniuses hate any kind of background noise because it prevents them from concentrating on important issues.
The study suggests that the inability to shut out competing sensory information while focusing on a creative project at hand might be rather intense for geniuses.
10.Bad Handwriting:
Messy handwriting is believed to be one of the signs of a creative person. Some of the personality traits linked to bad handwriting are creativity, independent thinking, and intelligence.
So you don’t need to feel bad about your handwriting, instead, embrace it, as it might just be because you’re a genius. It’s not your fault that you’re one.
